Medical Investigations

Not all problems are surgical — many involve internal medicine, from respiratory and gastrointestinal issues to unexplained weight loss, skin conditions, or poor performance. We offer thorough on-yard medical investigations using clinical examination, laboratory testing, and advanced portable diagnostics to identify the cause and provide clear treatment plans.

Respiratory disease – including coughs, nasal discharge, poor performance, and allergies.

  • Gastrointestinal problems – recurrent colic, diarrhoea, weight loss, and gastric ulcers.

  • Neurological concerns – abnormal behaviour, incoordination, or weakness.

  • Metabolic and endocrine disease – such as Equine Cushing’s disease (PPID) and Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).

  • Skin disease – including allergic reactions, infections, and unexplained lumps.

  • Fever and poor performance syndromes – where the cause is not immediately obvious.

Diagnostic options include:

  • Full clinical examination

  • Blood sampling and laboratory analysis (haematology, biochemistry, hormone testing)

  • Tracheal wash and bronchoalveolar lavage (for airway disease)

  • Faecal analysis and worm egg counts

  • Ultrasound and endoscopy (as appropriate)

Our approach
We take a systematic approach to each case, combining thorough history-taking, hands-on examination, and advanced diagnostics where needed. Once we have identified the underlying problem, we work with you to create a clear, practical treatment and management plan.

Our aim is to provide answers — not just treat symptoms — so your horse receives the most effective care and the best chance of recovery
