The Monthly Routine

A monthly update of what Towan Farm Vets are getting up to around West Cornwall.

#1 - May 2026

#2 - June 2026

June has been a busy month, from providing veterinary cover at the Royal Cornwall Show and supporting dairy cattle welfare monitoring, to helping farmers manage increasing worm burdens through faecal egg counting. We also share updates on parasite control, resistance concerns, and promising early results from biological fly control using Biowasp.

#3 - July 2026

July’s prolonged hot weather brought some unusual cases of heat stroke, alongside plenty of other livestock challenges. This month we also delivered sheep husbandry training for The Cinnamon Trust, investigated coccidiosis in calves and looked at the latest developments in the national bovine TB strategy. With the dry spell continuing, next month we’ll be keeping a close eye on parasites at pasture.

#4 - August 2026

August has brought our first confirmed case of Bluetongue, with further suspected cases being investigated and vaccination now well underway across local farms. We also look at the latest signs we’re seeing in cattle, Animal Health and Welfare Review funding still available to farmers, and the unpredictable parasite burdens we’re seeing this summer.
